Stygles Brothers Talk – Thanks!
Thank you to the Stygles brothers and all who made their talk a success! What a wonderful gathering for our community!
A note of thanks from Jessica Alexander: Thank you to Anne Marshall Lavigne for moderating the questions. I think everyone learned something about farms and farming in Jericho & Underhill. Thank you to Verity, high school student with MMCTV for filming the event. The video will soon be available from MMCTV and I will post a link on Front Porch Forum.
Thank you to Jean Archibald and Judy Boardman for their work with the Underhill Historical Society, for bringing the milk route drawings by Fred Fletcher and Fred Fletcher himself! Fred is an amazing source of information of dairy farms/farming equipment and trends in milking in Jericho and Underhill. He seemed to know many models of tractors and when people in Jericho and Underhill were able to afford them. I was struck by his comment about the milk prices increasing after WWII which allowed farmers to buy a tractor. He said he always kept a team of horses though in addition to the tractors. I drove Fred Fletcher home after the event and he really enjoyed talking with everyone and seeing some Jericho High School alumni. He just sold his last cow this month so he is already missing visiting them in the barn. He also has 2 tractors for sale that have been very well cared for.
Thank you to Jen Greenwood, Julia Blake and June Taylor for helping set up the Community Center and helping with the food. It is great to have such a dedicated Community Center in Jericho Center Operating Committee !
Your name did not have to begin with a “J” to help plan the event but it would not have happened with out Jean, Judy, Jen, Julia and June.
